Small appliances are the only things that keep the kitchen going in nice working order. That being said, I don’t know a college student to date that doesn’t rely on his or her fair share of single serve coffee (especially during finals season), to get them through the semester. In order to stay bright eyed and bushy tailed, I recommend the Senseo Single Serve Coffee Machine. Small enough to easily fit in any dorm kitchen, this coffee maker provides a 4 oz. cup of brew in a whopping 30 seconds. That pretty much means that whenever you are looking for a quick buzz, it will take less than a minute to recharge your battery with a single serve! The Senseo coffee pods are available in a mild, medium, dark, and decaffeinated roast to appease any palate, and the Senso single serve coffee machine even comes with a complimentary bonus gourmet coffee kit. The Senso has an emergency safety OFF switch that will automatically click if/when the machine has stayed on for more than an hour, and it includes machine washable removable parts for an easy clean. This coffee maker holds 4-8o.z mugs for a full cup of enjoyment.

Speaking from experience, every Dorm Room needs a fan. Most dorms/apartments come with an air conditioning unit, but with all the food, dirty laundry, and heat that builds up, you should look into a Vornado 3 Speed Fan for air circulation. An extremely compact fan, the Vornado measures at 12” x 8.80” x 13.60” so that it can easily rest on a desk (or floor) without taking up necessary workspace. As a 3-speed fan, you are able to control both the amount of air circulation, and the direction of airflow by adjusting the fan blade head. As a high performance unit, the Vornado fan uses vortex technology in order to fully circulate the air in whichever room it is placed. It will even circulate air in a room up to a surprising 70 ft, and I don’t know any dorm room that large! Oddly, as powerful as this compact fan is, it works wonders while remaining whisper quiet for potential student study sessions. Plus as a further sign of quality and assurance, Vornado even gives this fan a 5-year warranty-even though it will far out last the time constraint.

If you are heading back to school, the first thing you are going to need (after shower shoes of course) is a clear computer monitor. Prices have been substantially dropping on flat panel monitors, and between Labor Day sales and back to school time, this is really the time to buy. The Acer Flat Panel 19” Monitor will soon be available through Best Buy at a great price of $159.99 after rebate. Perfect for graphic designers or the avid movie watcher, this Acer computer monitor is thin enough to be mounted on the wall, and has a terrific 2000:1 contrast ratio for a fantastic display. The 19” wide screen flat panel also has a 1440 x 900 maximum resolution at 75Hz, meaning you will be getting an extremely clear and detailed image regardless of the colors on screen. Personally I am excited about this particular Acer monitor because it is both PC and Mac compatible, and it has a 5 ms response time to discourage any blurriness or streaking during a fast action movie, sporting event, or video game. Keep a look out at Bestbuy.com for this Acer 19” Widescreen Monitor as it is coming soon, but will assuredly sell out fast.

If you are like me and have sensitive skin, shaving your face with a straight edge razor could be a pretty painful experience. It seems as if I spend more time trying to find the right sensitive skin shaving cream then I do actually shaving. Yet all the time I am left with nicks, cuts, red irritated skin, or bumps. The Braun Series 7 Pulsonic Shaver is a great alternative for people who find that disposable blade razors are just not cutting it. Pulsonic technology means 10,000 microvibrations per minute gently cutting away any and all unwanted facial hair. Braun also incorporates a “power comb” which will lift problem hairs (i.e the ones that lay flat to the skin) up for a perfectly smooth face everytime. This addition, as well as the inclusion of gillete blade technologies, allows the braun 7 series to do more of a cutting job with less strokes, pulling, and irritation. For the college student who is not exactly concerned with a high maintenance product, the series 7 pulsonic shaver self cleans with the touch of a button, as well as lubricates, dries, and recharges.

Why didn’t they have the Dorm mini fridge and warmer combo when I was in school? Instead, I got stuck with having to purchase a separate mini fridge and microwave for my room, which left me with 0 extra surface space. The 12 Liter portable mini fridge cooler warmer is the ideal solution for any student with limited space, but who has a big hunger. It can hold up to 15 cans of soda or 4 wine bottles or what ever combo of drinks and snacks you can think of. As an environmentally friendly appliance, the mini fridge uses advanced semi conductors (i.e no liquid refrigerants) to cool items down to 32 degrees, or warm them up to a nice 150F with the touch of a button. It works without any type of condensation build up, and the locking latch will create a perfect seal against the possibility of hot/cold air loss. The highly compact dorm mini fridge sits 17″x11″x12″ and is meant for regular electrical sockets, yet comes with an adapter for car/boats/cigarette lighters for ultimate portability. The 12 Liter mini fridge and warmer is perfect for a discreet way of storing (and warming) food in small offices, dorm rooms, home/bedroom, or for on the go travel.

If you hadn’t noticed this already, you are soon going to see your lawn become full of fallen leaves and twigs. Using a Weedeater Featherlite Leaf Blower is an ideal way to curb those leaves before they get out of hand. Unlike many other leaf blowers, this particular Weedeater is extremely lightweight and comfortable in your hand. In order to improve grip, the featherlight uses a reduced vibration handle and is surprisingly comfortable regardless of the angle it is at. This is not to say that comfort jeopardizes power. In fact, the featherlite leaf blower is packing a 2 speed control with up to 150mph/200 CFM air volume. The beautiful part about this machine, is the fact that the power of the 23cc engine is very easy to start up and is actually whisper quiet when running. This is a great blower for all of those difficult jobs such as cleaning roof gutters, or when trying to move wet/damp leaves. Any time when weight is an issue, the Weedeater Featherlite Leaf Blower is the powerful leaf remover you want for the job.

Data is not a stationary object. In fact, students today are especially in need of mobile devices which will carry their important documents, tunes, and pictures all over campus. Why bother with cumbersome folders and portfolios when you can store all data on a 8 GB Kingston Data Traveler. This ideal solution is about the size of a pen knife and only .08 oz. You would think something this small and light would be susceptible to breaking however the Kingston flash drive is backed by a nice 5 year warranty and the connector is retractable, so there is not even a worry about loosing/breaking the cap. The 8 GB data traveler is compatible with both old and new Mac and Windows operating systems, and the USB 2.0 connection is backwards compatible for older computers as well. The flash memory can easily formated to encrypt sensitive data, and it utilizes a rear bar in order to be attatched to a lanyard or keychain. Overall, the Kingston data traveler is a high yielding memory tool which will give the same performance of pricier flash drives of the same kind.
8 GB Kingston Flash Drives are available at a great many online locations. Check these stores for the most discounted price.

With all the GPS systems on the market, it is hard to differentiate between which product is the best for the buck, which may have the most options you are looking for, which is the sleekest, etc. Personally, I like the Magellan Maestro 3200 because it is extremely compact and easy to use. Nothing beats a highly intuitive interface with a crystal clear 3.5” QVGA color touch-screen display. The Magellan offers maps to cover the continental U.S as well as Puerto Rico and Hawaii and does so with either a 3-D birds eye view, standard map view, or turn by turn instructions. Clearly you may know where you want to go, but may not be able to spell it. This is really no problem considering the included QuickSpell technology which checks/corrects spellings of addresses and locations. The Maestro 3000 will also automatically adjust the back light brightness depending on the time of day, as well as give you 3 hours of run time when not plugged in. With various mounting accessories, computer software, and power adapter included, this is a great package for any person who needs an easy to use GPS for all multiple traveling needs.

If you are an avid T.V watcher, but don’t always have access to the tube, it might be time to start thinking about a Slingbox Pro. As the newest addition to the Slingbox family, the Pro version will allow you to stream programming and watch on up to 3 standard definition, and 1 HD video devices. This stream will allow you to watch your favorite shows on any computer or compatible mobile device around the globe with a 400% video quality improvement over the original version. Sorry for all you beach bums, but back to school is just around the corner. So, if you are going to be (or have been) an on campus dweller and plan on not starving during all those late nights, I suggest picking up a G.E Compact Microwave. This 0.7 Cu. Ft. white on white microwave is the perfect size for any dorm room or uncomfortably small apartment. Though highly compact, the G.E microwave offers a great variety of features such as preprogrammed heat and time settings for everyday foods, easy to read LED display, 10 power levels for dense foods, auto defrost (for foods weighing up to 6lbs.), rotating glass turntable, and a child lock for safety. Made by G.E, this is a highly reliable, highly economical appliance which is only offered online through Bestbuy.com. Thus far it has received a 4 out of 5 overall user rating, and at only 10” height x almost 18” deep, this 23lb. microwave will be ideal for any location lacking counter space.

Surprise, surprise, the hardest game console to buy is still the Nintendo Wii. It seems like this elusive gaming device sells out of stores even before the store itself is able to carry them. Go figure that one out! Clearly the best way to buy a Wii is not through the stores, and there is not much of a guarantee for those that happen to fall off a back of a truck. The only place that consistently has the Nintendo Wii is good ol’ Ebay. These systems are always coming in great shape and normally with 2 controllers and video games. Some packages even included Wii Fit and the Mario Kart Bundle (as well as a multitude of other games), so you won’t even have to rush out to buy a new game once you get it delivered. Plus, many of the Wii’s come guaranteed new and include over a year long warranty. If you are a big fan of the Wii and are looking to actually own one instead of wishing you had one, check out Ebay’s huge supply! Just as an added little bonus, if you are unfamiliar with the ways of Ebay, get ready to enjoy purchasing an online item with FREE shipping!

For tailgating parties, BBQ’s, or just a stroll down the street, nothing can come in as useful as the Cruzin Cooler 50-Series Electric Scooter. Yes this is a scooter with a huge cooler for a seat. Yes I want one. Yes you should want one too. The cooler will hold up to 24 cans of beverages (or a variety of other foods) with 8 lbs. of ice, and be able to withstand up to a 250lb. rider on top. This vicious little speedster will travel up to a whopping 13 mph fully loaded, and uses a 500 watt electric motor to haul some larger loads. For safety, the crusin cooler has disc brakes, a solid aluminum construction and rims, spring loaded foot pegs, and a stop switch. Some assembly is actually required but any tool you need is already included in the package and if need be, there is also an included trailer hitch. As with any mobile device a helmet is always recommended and in some states even required by law. Outside of that minor detail, have a fun time scooting around delivering drinks at the game.
